Shoreditch railway and Underground station (site), London
Opened in 1876 on the East London line from New Cross (etc) to London Liverpool Street, this station became part of the London Underground in 1947. The line and stations closed in 2006 when the line was transferred to London Overground and diverted via the bridge in the background to a new Shoreditch High Street station.
View north west as the former station entrance. The Underground lines were in a cutting just underneath the hip-roofed building, parallel to the bridge behind but much lower down, the building having been at the west end of the two platforms (one after 1966). The former railway cutting has all been filled in and the former station building has become a target for graffiti artists.
