St Sepulchre without Newgate Church
St Sepulchre without Newgate Church
The first mention of St Sepulchre’s is in 1137. It was rebuilt in the mid 15th century and again largely rebuilt after the Great Fire of London. 1St Sepulchre’s Church lies close to the Old Bailey. The bells of the church used to ring out to announce executions at Newgate Prison, the site of which is now occupied by the Old Bailey. The organ dates from 1670. It has a watch house at the old entrance to the churchyard to deter body snatchers – see Link

This view looks along the nave towards the altar.
