Bocking Windmill - drive to the steam driven stones
This is a Grade I Listed weatherboarded post mill on a two storey brick roundhouse. It dates from c1680 and was moved to its current location in 1830 when the round house was added. It was handed over to the Urban District Council for preservation in 1929. The buck is now fixed and no longer revolves. The access to the buck is from the round house - an arrangement from the preservation era.
This is in the lower level of the roundhouse and shows the drive to the steam driven stones on the floor above. The drive was by an auxiliary steam engine that is no longer present. This was most likely a portable engine external to the mill and driving by a belt to the wheel on the left.
