Bocking windmill - brakewheel
Bocking windmill - brakewheel
This is a Grade I Listed weatherboarded post mill on a two storey brick roundhouse. It dates from c1680 and was moved to its current location in 1830 when the round house was added. It was handed over to the Urban District Council for preservation in 1929. The buck is now fixed and no longer revolves. The access to the buck is from the round house - an arrangement from the preservation era.
This shows the wooden, clap-arm brakewheel around the metal windshaft that carries the sails. Below it is the crown wheel with an auxiliary drive to the left. Either side of the windshaft is part of a grain hopper above the two sets of millstones.
