monument was erected in 1788 in honour of the scholar and historian George Buchanan Link born at Moss near Killearn in 1506. The obelisk is of grey sandstone 103 feet (31.4m) high, on a base 19 feet (5.8m) square. It was repaired in 1850, when a plaque NS5285 : Plaque, Buchanan Monument was added to it.
