Newcastle-upon-Tyne Trolleybus 501 at the Black Country Living Museum
As well as being a superb museum, The Black Country Living Museum also possesses what is currently (June 2008) the largest length of roadway equipped for trolleybus operation in the UK. The equipment is mainly salvaged from the former local systems at Wolverhampton (which included a branch to Dudley) and Walsall. The Museum's Transport Group operates preserved local trolleybuses every Sunday & Bank Holiday between Easter and Christmas. Every two years there is a national event to which guest vehicles are invited to operate on the system. In 2008 the event was called Trolley 21 to celebrate 21 years of trolleybus operation at the site. The vehicle here is a Sunbeam S7 three axle trolleybus dating from 1948. It operated as No 501 in the fleet of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Transport and has recently been restored.
