St Nicholas' church > Link - Link has an octagonal tower > Link - Link which once housed the oldest bell in Norfolk, dating from c. 1290. This bell was stolen in 1973, after the church had been made redundant and suffered greatly from vandalism, until being taken in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, several years later. The tower has a Norman doorway > Link - believed to have been reset during the restoration in the 19th century; there is also a door leading up the tower > Link on the outside wall. Vandals also damaged the pews and smashed the glass in the east window > Link which was by S.C. Yarrington of Norwich. The remaining fragments were reassembled and are now reset in the upper half of the window. Apart from a number of C17 ledger stones > Link - Link on the chancel floor, the medieval font > Link with its particularly fine carving is the sole survivor of the carnage. The church is kept locked (as are most other churches in this area) but a key is available on request. For more information see: Link
