SK1081 : Bull Pit

taken 18 years ago, near to Sparrowpit, Derbyshire, England

Bull Pit
Bull Pit
An impressively large and deep limestone crater just north of the Sparrowpit-Castleton road, but difficult to photograph clearly because of the trees growing within and around it. The booklet Caves and Karst of the Peak District (BCRA Cave Studies Series Number 3) has this to say of Bull Pit: "This is almost certainly a collapsed cavern which is similar to SK1180 : Eldon Hole but is only 25m deep and with more broken sides."
