North Bovey: New Mill
North Bovey: New Mill
The cast-iron shrouds of the overshot waterwheel survive by the lane running west from the village. New Mill is listed Grade II and is believed to retain its milling machinery. It dates from the mid 19th century and in 1887 it was ‘To Let by Private Contract from Lady-day 1887, for such term of years as may be agreed on, New Mills, near the village of North Bovey, containing two pairs of Stones, Flour and Smut Machines, constant water supply, a comfortable Dwelling-house, Stable, Piggery, &c with about three acres of Meadow and Arable Land.’ [The Western Times 7 January 1887]
