Millom Library
Millom was evidently very confident when this large library was built, but the iron ore boom did not last. Note the terracotta plaques, cast with the words 'Public Reading Room' and 'Free Library'. The library is on the ground floor to the left of the entrance door and the reading room was to the right of the entrance door and again on the ground floor. The upstairs and extensions to the rear were a school.

It's now owned by the County Council (Local Education Authority/libraries). The 'extensions' out the back are derelict and there's talk of demolition (needs reroofing). The room above the library is now the Council Chamber for Millom Town Council having moved out of the 'Town Hall' (clocktower, Market Sq.) Other parts of the building are used for other council services (town admin and district council office).
