Swimbridge: church and village
The church is dedicated to St James. Parson Jack Russell’s grave is in the churchyard and a nearby pub, known as the New Inn when Russell was alive in the 1870s is now named after this famous cleric. The main industries aside from farming in the 19th century were tanning and quarrying. The Taunton – Barnstaple railway had a station here, opened in 1873 and closed in 1965
