Hackney Marsh, E9
The strip of land between the Lee Navigation and the River Lea (or Lee) is known as Hackney Marsh. It has been drained and maintained and now provides a large number of football pitches as well as other recreational facilities. It is particularly colourful on Sunday mornings when all the pitches are in use.The level of the marsh was supposed to have been raised by dumping debris from bombed buildings in the east end.
