TQ6876 : Coalhouse Point radar tower

taken 16 years ago, 3 km from East Tilbury, Thurrock, England

Coalhouse Point radar tower
Coalhouse Point radar tower
This was deliberately disguised as a water tower to 'fool' the enemy. You can still access the lower level of the tower at low tide, but signs warn against climbing to the upper level. The tower once housed an operations room and a barracks room. Around the tower are the remains of many jetties and a defence electric light facility.
