Pauperhaugh Bridge
Pauperhaugh Bridge
This elegant, although asymmetrical, stone bridge carries a minor road across the River Coquet at Pauperhaugh. The exact year of construction is not known, although it is believed to have been built at around the same time as the Rothbury - Weldon road in about 1825. It is certainly interesting to speculate why the expense of this substantial bridge was considered necessary given that the road, even today, leads to nowhere in particular. The structure is grade II listed.
