By Sheila Mitchell F.R.B.S.

Commemorating the story from the 15th century. Blanche's lover Neville Audley was held captive at Chertsey Abbey and due to be executed when the sunset curfew bell rang. The tale tells that Blanche held on to the bell's clapper until a requested pardon from king Edward IV arrived.

This according to a plaque on the plinth.
