Newton Wood War Memorial
The Grade II listed Linkwar memorial on Victoria Road was unveiled by Col. John Wood M.P (then for Stalybridge and Dukinfield, later for Stalybridge and Hyde) on October 13, 1917, to perpetuate the memory of the men who had joined the colours. The cost was defrayed by subscriptions from the inhabitants and friends of Newton Wood. The designs were prepared by Mr Samuel Hague, borough surveyor, and the carving and erection was completed by Messrs J.J. Hirst and Son, Denton.
