View north from Bremore, Co. Dublin
Mound I of the Bremore passage tomb cemetery viewed from on top of a bale O1965 : Passage tomb cemetery at Bremore, Co. Dublin. On the horizon, above and immediately right of the mound, may be seen the dome shape of Slieve Guillion in Co. Armagh, 35 miles away to the NNW, on the summit of which there is a passage tomb in a 30m-diameter cairn, as at Bremore. Excavated by Collins and Wilson in 1961, the report on Slieve Guillion is in Ulster Journal of Archaeology 1963. Inter-visibility being a characteristic of this class of tomb, the Neolithic builders of Bremore may well have taken this view into account when choosing this site to inter their dead.
