SO8785 : Stourbridge Canal empty south-west of Middle Bridge

taken 11 years ago, near to Stourton, Staffordshire, Great Britain

Stourbridge Canal empty south-west of Middle Bridge
Stourbridge Canal empty south-west of Middle Bridge
The loss of water was caused by a breach (see other images in SO8785) of the canal embankment on the night of September 7th means that passage from here to Stourbridge, or Birmingham via Netherton Tunnel will now be impossible (they say) for at least 4-6 months. Water is due to be pumped into this pound above Stourton top lock starting on 22nd September, but this will only be to allow a boatyard to resume some activity, and allow stranded boaters passage down to the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at Stourton Junction.
