SD3030 : Site of Blackburn Children's Home

taken 18 years ago, near to St Annes, Lancashire, England

Site of Blackburn Children's Home
Site of Blackburn Children's Home
Back in the days when the air of Blackpool was visibly cleaner than the air of Blackburn (because of dark satanic mills such as SD6921 : India Mills, Darwen just outside Blackburn) many convalescent homes were built on the coast. This is the former Blackburn Children's Home which stands near the SD3030 : Thursby Home in an isolated location in the sand dunes north of St Annes. The Blackburn Home had become progressively more derelict since it was vacated in 1976. Despite a local campaign to have it demolished ( LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) and LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) ) to allow the dunes to revert to their natural state, the site is now being redeveloped as 18 luxury apartments. More pictures at LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . I like LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) with Sue's blonde hair attesting to what it is like here when the wind gets up!
