SD3245 : Welcome to Fleetwood

taken 18 years ago, near to Fleetwood, Lancashire, England

Welcome to Fleetwood
Welcome to Fleetwood
This monument stands in the middle of the roundabout where the recently built Amounderness Way crosses Fleetwood Road. The plaque reads "Fisherman's Friend welcomes you to Fleetwood". Fisherman's Friend might be described as Fleetwood's answer to Blackpool Rock: it is a brand of mentholated cough lozenge ( LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) ). There is no access to the centre of the monument and no explanation of the black thing in the middle but it may be a Victorian fountain moved here from some local park.
