This generally inaccessible viewpoint onto the pond, taken on a rather misty day, shows the abundance of wildlife it supports. Birds include many species of ducks, crakes, waders and gulls. Roe deer also visit. This photo shows a large flock of lapwings against the hillside.text/html2012-01-23T00:44:46+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/10453Caroline Maynard50.671228 -2.042259SY9785 : Wytch Lake from the Harrier Hide

This is the same hide shown in [[1201449]] but from a different viewpoint. Like the Dartford Hide [[2172211]] it is a converted shepherd's hut, but this one is at a higher viewpoint accessed via a steep path from the Middlebere Tramway.text/html2012-01-18T00:44:56+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/10453Caroline Maynard51.036436 -1.322646SU4726 : Hockley Viaduct

The viaduct was built to carry the Newbury to Southampton railway line but has been disused since 1965.text/html2012-01-18T00:11:49+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/10453Caroline Maynard51.036082 -1.323507SU4726 : Hockley Viaduct: planned route of NCN 23

The Hockley Viaduct, which once carried the Southampton to Newbury railway across the Winchester Water Meadows. In the 1980s the local council planned to engage the army to blow up the viaduct, but it was later opened as a permissive footpath. In late 2011 funding was agreed to repair the viaduct and use it to carry National Cycle Route 23 which runs from Reading to the Isle of Wight.
