This building may well have had an industrial origin as it is adjacent to the former bleachfield which in the late 1950s was known as the laundry park. James Ogilvy, Lord Deskford, sixth Earl of Findlater and third Earl of Seafield was a prominent agriculturalist who established a significant linen industry in the district c 1752. The Lintmill of Cullen is one remaining memory of this successful rural enterprise.
