The line of Cannon Street can still be seen, but soon all will disappear under the long awaited final stage of Derby's inner ring road (some 40+ years in the making). Cannon Street was part of an area known as the "Little City", which consisted of low quality high density old housing, and was cleared in 1959-1961 as part of "slum" clearance. At the current time this area is given over to car parking.text/html2007-12-21T13:10:44+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14752.989744 -1.517299SK3243 : Entrance gate to Farnah Hall, near Duffield

This is the entrance to the now ruinous Farnah Hall, leading off the track from the main road.text/html2007-12-21T12:22:31+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14752.992881 -1.515178SK3244 : Farnah Lodge - Farnah Hall, near Duffield

Although Farnah Hall is a complete ruin, the pretty lodge is now a private house. The rather grand curved stone walls mark the entrance to the track that once led to the hall.text/html2007-11-25T22:49:30+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14753.342811 -1.609900SK2682 : Upper Burbage Bridge

Remarkably this row of fine Georgian town houses has managed to survive the destructive tendencies of Derby's town "planners". This section of Friar Gate is largely the work of the noted architect, Joseph Pickford.text/html2007-11-08T00:21:24+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14752.926237 -1.485875SK3436 : The Woodlark - Bridge Street, Derby

A fine old house, apparently built in the early 19th century. This of course, would make it of the Regency period rather than Georgian (despite its name). It was at one time the residence of the governor of the County Gaol on nearby South Street.text/html2007-11-08T00:03:39+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14752.925552 -1.493618SK3436 : Old cottage - Ashbourne Road, Derby

Until quite recently there stood a beautiful old rectory on this site, which for a number of years was the home of Core Design (creators of the computer game "Tomb Raider") who immortalised the building as "Croft Manor" in their games. The old building would have lent itself quite nicely to conversion to apartments, but the local planners decided to let Radleigh Homes demolish it. In its place they are building purpose built apartment blocks instead. At least the new design pays a certain homage to the old building.text/html2007-11-07T14:06:28+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/15517J14752.926689 -1.486465SK3436 : Derelict buildings - Brook Street, Derby

According to the estate agents, these old houses offer a "development opportunity"!
