About Me
Formerly avid caver, now enthusiastic canoeist (white water and sea kayak, occasional open boating). Skier, ski-tourer, cyclist, walker, climber, mountaineer, photographer, boat-builder, reader... About two thirds of Munros bagged, which I'm aiming to resume now the kids have flown. The b******s have added more to the list (some promoted from tops of Munros I'd already climbed) so I seem to be going backwards, especially as I've decided I should climb every hill which has ever been a Munro (323 of which I've done 209).
I first discovered geograph whilst searching for photos of new rivers to paddle and quite a lot of my photos (and descriptions) are aimed to meet this need, since photos from on the water seemed under-represented. My best hope for getting the green squares, however, seems to involve sea kayaking to remote skerries or bits of coast far from roads and paths.
Personal milestones:
First photo shortlisted for PoTY, a week after becoming a user. My first winner was a year later in week 10 of 2010 (another visit to Mull) and a second after a wait of 12 years. As many of my better submissions in the first few months were from my deep past, those weren't eligible. I've had one winner of YOMP - a photo which I was really pleased with on my first visit to Knoydart.
Shortlisted:
2022:
week 20 winner
2021:

2020:

I was somewhat surprised that 100% of my 2019 submissions (only two photos) made it to PoTY:

2018:
(last also YOMP winner, May 2018)
