The marquee set up for the last checkpoint before the Gold Challenge participants head to Blairgowrie. This checkpoint is 8.4 miles before the end of the 52 mile full Cateran Trail.
I am sure you can realise why the area was so wet and muddy as it is at the bottom of a glen and all the rainfall drains into the burn just below the marquee. The marshals tried to make the area into and out of the checkpoint as dry and safe as possible.

The final participants of the Gold Challenge - the full 52 miles of the Cateran Trail - arrive at the finish line at 9.35 on Sunday having left at 7.00 or 7.30 the previous day. Of course there were great cheers!
I believe they are father and daughter and the mother of the family completed the challenge last year.
And of course the sun was shining. A great end to a fabulous event.text/html2012-07-03T03:03:33+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.596569 -3.343067NO1745 : Burnhead Farm, Blairgowrie

Taken just before midnight heading towards the darkest part of the night in this part of the world. Still waiting for participants in the Gold Challenge - the full 52 miles of the Cateran Trail - to come through Checkpoint 4. Food, water, medics, physio, support and encouragement are all here to get them through the last 8.5 miles to the finish at Blairgowrie.
The pic may look squint but it was the marquee on a slope, honest, my tripod was level. That's the way the land is in rural Scotland! And we manage beautifully!text/html2012-07-03T02:44:14+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.644060 -3.260772NO2250 : Sunset, Newton of Bamff

The Ghurkas head up over the back of Alyth Hill. They had just come through Checkpoint 4 and were looking very fresh. They were participating in the Gold Challenge - the full 52 miles of the Cateran Trail.text/html2012-07-03T02:26:15+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.641043 -3.265889NO2250 : Looking West, Newton of Bamff

Looking towards plantation planting. Boggy ground in the foreground which can be identified by the reeds growing leading to a burn which heads towards Alyth. The field was a mixture of wild flowers and grasses. The yellow flowers are Buttercups. This marquee was Checkpoint 4 where participants in the Gold Challenge of the Yomp - the full 52 miles of the Cateran Trail - could have a rest, food and water before taking on the last 8.5 miles to the finish line at Blairgowrie. Medics and a physiotherapist were also available. The route then heads south over the road and up the hill towards Alyth.text/html2012-07-03T01:36:49+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.642843 -3.256818NO2350 : Entrance to Checkpoint 4, Cateran Yomp 2012

The arrow points the way into Checkpoint 4 of the Cateran Yomp. This is the last checkpoint before the final 8.5 miles of the Gold Challenge to the finish at Blairgowrie. The Gold Challenge is the full 52 miles of the Cateran Trail. It is very muddy but marshals have made efforts to reduce the amount of surface water and mud. Beyond the porta-loo is the uphill route to Alyth Hill.text/html2012-07-03T01:21:54+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.643020 -3.256987NO2350 : Checkpoint 4, Track, Cateran Trail

This is the part of the trail just before Checkpoint 4. The last checkpoint of the Cateran Yomp 2012. As you can see the weather has been awful and the trail is waterlogged and very muddy. The marshals have tried to make it as safe as possible and reduce the amount of surface water.text/html2012-07-03T01:07:25+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/51180Dona Robbins56.596988 -3.345850NO1745 : Crossing the Finish Line, Cateran Yomp 2012

Early Sunday morning. Many of the walkers on the Gold Challenge - the full length of the Cateran Trail which is 52 miles - have returned to the finish line. A group to the left, with their medals, are probably heading home and another group to the left are just finishing.
