This Maldon Oyster Smack, William, was built by Howard's of Maldon in 1889. Construction is primarily Larch planking on Oak frames. The hull was sheathed in Glass Rinforced Plastic (GRP) by Frank Halls and Sons of Walton in 1991. Photographed off The Naze, it was about 11/2 miles out to sea. Got home blew it up on the tablet and got its name STENOA. Apparently she was an ex Watson class lifeboat and during her working life was based at Newhaven. She was one of the small ships at Dunkirk saved a number soldiers before being rammed and nearly lost.
