Stobs Camp :: Shared Description

A selection of images taken at the site of Stobs Camp.

Dating from 1903, the first major use of the site was during The Great War - by the end of 1914, 5,000 men were accommodated at Stobs. 15,000 men were posted at the site by 1917 and up to 6,000 German PoWs were confined at the site. Come the end of the Second World War, the site was used as a resettlement camp and still later a summer camp. Come 1959, the site was abandoned, with some infrastructure being auctioned off that year.
