Glass-sided escalators link the ground and first floors of the now-closed Central Library. The glass is printed with the myriad variants of the name 'Birmingham' that have appeared in writing and print down the ages, among them Birmengham, Brymygeham, Bormycham, Bremyngeham, Brimyncham, Brymyham, Brymmyngham, Brymycham, Brimingham, Bermingham, Bermyngeham, Burmyngham, Burmygham, Burymyngham, Bermecham, Brumwycham and Bromwycham (the last two recalling the nearby towns of West Bromwich and Castle Bromwich).
