Quiet Lanes
Landcroft and Hungary Lanes are specially marked with blue ‘Quiet Lane’ signs at each end to indicate their designation and to encourage drivers to be particularly aware of pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists. Directional road signs have been removed to discourage motorists from using these lanes as a route into the village. The lay-bys along the lanes have been attractively paved to encourage people to park and go for a walk. Seating is also be provided in strategic sites along the lanes allowing a view of the attractive countryside.
Quiet Lanes are an initiative of the Countryside Agency. They do not use measures such as speed humps to control traffic flow but rely on all users respecting the designation of the road. Nottinghamshire County Council worked with the Campaign to Protect Rural England on the project which was completed in 2004 at a cost of £120,000.
