Hospitium

The Pilgrims' Hospitium is one of the oldest surviving timber-framed buildings in York, dating back to the 14th Century.

Part of St Mary's Abbey, the ground floor of this timber and stone building is medieval and would have served as a guest house or barn. It is a Grade II* listed building (English Heritage Building ID: 464212 LinkExternal link British Listed Buildings).

The first floor was rebuilt in the 20th century to house the Yorkshire Museum's archaeology collection.

It is now used to host conferences and special functions such as lectures, receptions etc.

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
