Tour de France 2014 in Pool in Wharfedale
Pool is about 5km from Weardley, and only the second village that the race would pass through. The crowds here were a precursor to the massive crowds all along the route in Yorkshire, where the BBC reported that over 2.5 million spectators watched and cheered over the 2 days and 2 stages. The words of the Race Director Christian Prudhomme sum it up "I can see the Tour in their hearts, and in their eyes. For that, I say thank you to everyone in Yorkshire who has made this Grand Depart so very, very special."
