Caergwrle Drill Hall :: Shared Description

The 1891 census records that Joseph Cooper and his family were living in the accommodation attached to the drill hall. Joseph was 42 from Bedfordshire and was recorded as a Sergeant Instructor (Vol). Joseph's wife was born in Malta, but their 9 month old twins were born in 'Hope', however, Caergwrle came within Hope in 1891. Then in 1901, the census records that Noel Park Ridings and his family lived in the accommodation attached to the drill hall. Noel is recorded as a 'Soldier Srgt(? unclear) Instructor who was born in Preston, but whose wife was born in Ireland. His 3 year old son was born in Malta, and his 1 year old son was born in Wrexham. So he had travelled around as a soldier. By 1911 Noel had moved to Sheffield with an army pension.
