Steampunk festival in Lincoln - The Asylum © Richard Humphrey
The event, known as The Asylum, is the longest running and largest annual gathering in the world and takes over the castle grounds and surrounding historic buildings and streets over a number of days. The Asylum is run by the Victorian Steampunk Society.
Steampunk has been described as "nostalgia for what never was" and draws on a wide variety of influences from science fiction/fantasy, Victoriana, HG Wells and comics.
One of the main themes is to be courteous, with any disputes settled with Tea Duelling - who can keep a dunked biscuit in the tea the longest.
