Sandbach railway station
Sandbach is the first stop on the line from Crewe to Manchester, a line laid out in 1842 by the Manchester & Birmingham Railway on a straight line from Crewe to Holmes Chapel, leaving the station for the market town of Sandbach more than a mile from the town. It is currently served by two stopping trains an hour to/from Manchester and Crewe, but several more long-distance passenger and freight trains pass through. There is a freight only branch to Middlewich just north of the station. There were formerly sidings to the west of the passenger platforms, but they became disused by the 1980s and have since been lifted.
