Collyhurst War Memorial

The Collyhurst War Memorial was erected by public subscription and unveiled by the Rt. Hon Earl of Derby KG (Secretary of State for War) on 23 May 1923 to commemorate British servicemen who died during the First World War. The memorial stands in a small paved area on the eastern side of Rochdale Road next to the former site of the Collyhurst Flats. It takes the form of a cross on a two tier plinth; the upper octagonal plinth is mounted on square plinth which bears the names of the deceased.

The main dedication, on the front of the memorial reads:
To The Enduring
Memory of
those who Gave
their Lives
Also those who Fought
For God and Country
in the Great War
1914 - 1919

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
