Huntly Distillery :: Shared Description

Huntly Distillery was founded in 1824, just after the licensing acts in 1822/3, by John Robertson and Company. It was still producing whisky in 1860 but had ceased operating by 1867.

The first edition of the tewnty-five-inch-to-the-mile Ordnance Survey map, dating from 1874 LinkExternal link shows an irregular central building with a long range extending southwards on the west side, and ancillary buildings to north and south.

By the time the second edition of the six-inch-to-the-mile map was revised in 1900, the central buildings had all but disappeared, leaving only the ancillary buildings and a small part of the west range. These are still to be seen today.
