In December 2015 much of Northern England was affected by flooding Link
Though Preston was not as badly affected as some other parts of the county, on Boxing Day all of the local rivers reached record levels. The River Darwen, River Ribble and Savick Brook all flooded in places. Some houses and businesses in Walton-le-Dale were flooded along with much agricultural land and several of the city's parks.
