The building stands across Maryhill Road from the site of the former Maryhill army barracks, little trace of which remains today.

The Glasgow Herald newspaper reported the closure of the home in 1959 LinkExternal link , largely as a result of the departure of resident soldiers from Maryhill Barracks.

At the time of writing in March 2016, the building is occupied by Frampton's Nightclub.
