Former Castleford to Garforth railway, by Fairburn Ings
The former line from Castleford to Garforth is accessible from Ings Lane by Newton Lane Pond, and from the north end of the bridge over the River Aire, where a small path leads up from one of the main paths of RSPB Fairburn Ings. The line is not marked as a public path, but is evidently used occasionally. In late March 2016 there was evidence that somebody had been cutting back bushes recently. The ballast is still in place, with many sleepers, and a substantial part of the rails as it approaches the bridge, but it is all overgrown. There are opportunities to look down at the lakes of Fairburn Ings.
