The Millennium Complex, Union Street :: Shared Description

The Gaumont Palace opened on November 16, 1931. It could seat 1,460 in the stalls and 790 in the upper circle.
It dropped 'Palace' from its name in 1937, making it The Gaumont.
The cinema closed on December 2, 1961, to be divided into two separate floors. A dance hall was created in the former stalls area, with an extended 1,043-seat cinema auditorium upstairs. It reopened as the Odeon on September 10, 1962.
The Odeon closed in early 1980 before the property's doors were reopened as a roller disco in December of the same year.
Soon to re-open as a revival prayer centre.
In 1987 it opened as a nightclub, going through a number of name changes – such as The Ritzy and The Boulevard – before finishing life as the Millennium Complex. It ceased trading in August 2004.
