Harrogate War Memorial (Cenotaph)
The front brass plaque is made up of 3 panels, each consisting of 3 columns, with the names of 641 people who perished in WWI, the list continuing on the rear plaque.
The rear plaque is in the same format as the front, with the remaining 238 names from WWI. Also included on the lower half are the names of 314 people who died in WWII.
Designed by architects Prestwich & Sons, the two relief panels sculpted by Gilbert Ledward.
The foundation stone was laid by the Hon. Edward Wood, MP (later to become Lord Halifax), on 2nd June, 1922, on a site which had previously formed the garden of the Prospect Hotel.
Unveiled by the Earl of Harewood on Ist September 1923 (to which names of the fallen of WWII have also been added).
