The Robin Chapel and Thistle Foundation
The Thistle Foundation is a charity founded by Sir Francis and Lady Isabella Tudsbery in 1944 to provide housing and support for disabled servicemen from WWI. It provides a community supported by professional staff to create as normal an environment as possible for families to live together Link
. While the housing complex was being planned the Tudsbery’s son, Lt Robin Tudsbery [Royal Horse Guards] was killed in action in the last days of WWII, aged 25, and the memorial chapel dedicated to him was incorporated into the scheme. It is Category A-listed, completed in 1953, and designed in the Scottish Arts & Crafts style by John F Matthew, of the architectural firm Lorimer & Matthew.
