University of Edinburgh Main Library and Theatre
The 8-storey late-Modernist style rectangular-plan library was built in 1965-7. It is a major work of Sir Basil Spence, Glover and Ferguson, and is one of the key Scottish buildings of the mid-1960s. It was the practice's largest building in Edinburgh at the time and received a RIBA award in 1968 and a Civic Trust Commendation in 1969. It is between the south side of George Square and Buccleuch Place, and just east of the main lecture theatre. Link
The lecture theatre is a large roughly cubical block to the east of the library, designed by Robert Matthew, Johnson-Marshall and Partners and built in 1965-1970. Link
