Dover Town Hall & Maison Dieu

The Hospital of St Mary, Domus Dei, or Maison Dieu, is a medieval building in Dover, which forms part of the Old Town Hall buildings.
Maison Dieu was founded in 1203 by Hubert de Burgh, to accommodate pilgrims coming from the Continent to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral.
In 1227, a chapel was added and Henry III attended its consecration. Today, this chapel survives as a courtroom. A "Great Chamber", built in 1253, is thought to be the present 'Stone Hall'.
Grade II* listed. LinkExternal link

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
