Shared description
War Department boundary stones, Whitelees
Several of these stones, delimiting land that was under military jurisdiction, can be seen around the enclosure of a former MOD mast near Whitelees Cottage (itself a former shooting lodge). A 1950s OS map shows some of the markers, simply labelling them "stones", but they appear to date from the Second World War. Their arrangement suggests that they were installed here in connection with the MOD mast. Another military site, the control bunker of a WWII decoy fire, was located nearby: NS2773 : Whitelees Moor - Bombing Decoy Control Bunker (240m WNW of the mast).
