Old Road to Barnhill
The rest of the old road, from NS41677526 to NS42497562, remains in use as a footpath, which is now part of the Overtoun House Circular Path (see Link for pictures taken on that route).
When the first-edition OS map was surveyed in 1860, there was already a quarry beside the western end of the road. Subsequent maps name it "High Mains Quarry", and reveal its gradual expansion to the east.
Geological maps show an igneous dyke here, running from about NS41457527 to NS42387540; the quarry began at the western end of that dyke, and expanded eastwards along the line of the dyke for a distance of about 300 metres. By the mid-1960s, it had fallen into disuse.

About shared descriptions
These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.
