Shared description
Oxleas Wood
Oxleas Wood is a stretch of ancient deciduous woodland believed to be at least 8,000 years old. Tree species include oak, silver birch, hornbeam and coppice hazel. The wood was acquired by the London County Council for public recreation in 1930 and is now administered by the Royal Borough of Greenwich. A scheme for a six-lane road that would have passed through the wood was abandoned in the 1990s after a sustained environmental campaign of opposition.
