The Ardgowan Club
The club was founded in 1841 by a number of gentlemen who met with, Sir Michael Robert Shaw Stewart of Ardgowan Estate and it was agreed that the area now known as Ardgowan Square would be laid out in order that the games of Bowling, Curling and Quoiting were available to members. It is the olest bowling club in Inverclyde.
The first clubhouse was opened in 1860 and this was replaced by another in 1906. The present Arts & Crafts style clubhouse building opened in 1926. Tennis was played at the club as far back as 1875, but the tennis club was not formed until June 1891.
There are two bowling greens and four floodlit all weather tennis courts at the club.
The clubhouse and surrounding walls, railings and gate piers are Category C Listed Link
