Glasgow Queen Street railway station redevelopment :: Shared Description
Queen Street station was built by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Company in 1842 and later became part of North British Railway Company. The station provides services to the north and east of the city, including the West Highland Line and the mainline services to Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness. There are also suburban lines serving the towns north of the Clyde and a second line to Edinburgh.
The station is being redeveloped under the £742m Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP). With the exception of the Category A Listed train shed Link
, the station buildings are being demolished and replaced with more modern and fit for purpose buildings. The main entrance at George Square is closed at the time of writing (June 2018) with access to the station only available from the Dundas Street and North Hanover Street entrances.
Services from the upper and lower stations continue as normal during the redevelopment works.
