Dinky Doors, Cambridge
It comprises a series of miniature doors located around Cambridge. Perhaps 'portal' would be a better word, as they appear to access a universe that is not quite our own.
The different doors are listed here in the order that I visited them in September 2019; the descriptions are taken from Dinky Doors own website. Link
Some of the works have moveable parts for the public to manipulate, and some of the inscriptions repay close inspection.
RIDE AND PARK - It's without doubt, the best way to visit Wandlebury and Milton Country Parks for your Wild Thyme and Embers kids bushcraft day - the best way to learn to survive the coming apocalypse.
LOVE FROM ABOVE - Sure, Angela and Mr. [D] Mon are somewhat diametrically opposite, but the fact that they're in love, proves that anyone can set aside their differences.
WONDER EMPORIUM - A Dinky shop where the mysterious objects that fall from our world can begin a new and exciting second life!
TELEPORT-o-MATIC - Or, "ToM" for short, is our new-and-improved teleportation service. You can find it nestled between the 3rd and 4th telephone boxes.
Bring some 3p coins if you want to go for an 'exciting' journey.
10 (and a quarter) DOWNING STREET - It's a world famous door, on a world famous street. Only... um... in miniature and maybe it's not the really famous street?
Do you dare see the inhabitant within?
REALITY CHECKPOINT - This is no ordinary lamp post. No.
It's Reality Checkpoint. Where reality itself is checked for how Splendid or Feisty it is. Crikey.
It's fully-interactive, so do adjust it if you're passing by.
THE EMAILERATOR - You know how it is, you want to post a parcel, but you're worried about safe delivery.
Our Emailerator service takes the postal out of posting... and emails it instead.
We're not sure how it works, but if you open the door, maybe you can discover its inner workings for yourself...?
THE DFO (Dinky Flying Object) - It's one dinky step for the Supreme Leader, one non-dinky leap for Dinkykind.
OMG - Aliens have crash-landed in Cambridge!!!!11!!!111!1!!1!!
It's out of this world.
I visited 3 more Dinky Doors locations in February 2021, but you will need to visit their website (see above) to find their names and descriptions.
A rocket-powered space rocket has appeared on Green Street, while further afield there is a crime scene on Mill Street where a previous manifestation disappeared just four days after its appearance, and on Sedgwick Street you will find the Octospa, complete with bollard lighthouse. During the visit, a revisit to Downing Street shows that the inhabitant within is alive and possibly kicking . . .
